Get to know Ibiza

Ibiza, with an area of 570km2 is the third largest of the Balearic Islands and with her sister-island of Formentera forms the "Pitiusas", which is what the Greeks called Ibiza and Formentera and means Pine Islands. The population is around 95,000 and it has an excellent climate with a maximum average annual temperature of 21.5º and minimum of 14º.
Ibiza was already inhabited by 1600BC, based on the paintings "ses Fontanelles" by St. Anthony and has been dominated by various different cultures, including the Romans, Vandals and Arabs until James 1st, king of Aragon, conquered the island in 1235AD. At the end of 1999 Dalt Vila, the necropolis of Puig des Molins, the Phoenician village of Sa Caleta and the underwater prairies of posidonia seaweed were declared a World Heritage Site by the United Nations.
